/// CARRILHO DA GRAÇA AWARDED

This international competition, by pre-selection, promoted by S.I.V.U. Elusa Séviac offers the opportunity to create a system of protection of the ruins of the villa in which the most important elements are the mosaic floors.
The Gallo-Roman Villa of Séviac, located in the Midi-Pirénées in Montreal du Gers, was first discovered in the nineteenth century and is listed monument since 1978.
The excavations in the last four decades presents a structure of a Roman Villa which had its greatest development in the Roman Empire down in third and fourth centuries AD.
Concept - The proposal is characterized by the creation of a volume, a roof that floats in the air and dissolves on the plateau where is located the Gallo-Roman Villa. It´s geometry results from the need to protect sensitive areas of the villa with mosaic floors. This abstract character emphasizes a desired assumption - the shape of the cover moves away from any resemblance with pre-existing, in order to create a clear divide and empower the value of Roman ruins.
Space - The coverage, placed 2.5 m above the floor, accentuates the subtle depression existing on the ground resulting from archaeological excavations. Thus, the irregularity of the archaeological is placed in evidence in relation to the plane of translucent and solid coverage.
Structure - The supports of the roof are surgically placed, not interfering with tiled floor and support a system of metal trusses with an average height of 2m, wrapped in a translucent screen, which allows us to suggest a volatile atmosphere but simultaneously consistent. Another glass volume involves a construction performed at the end of the twentieth century. In this space, located before the entrance of the village and along the old Roman road, will work the reception and introduction to the topic - Gallo-Roman Villa of Séviac.
